Mayday! Mayday!

Have you ever asked someone to help you? Maybe you needed help moving a heavy piece of furniture, or perhaps you were looking for someone to repair the leaky faucet in your kitchen. Whether we like to admit it or not, there are times when we could all use a helping hand.

Think of a pilot who uses the “Mayday!” signal. There are times when we feel as if we are on a plane that is running low on fuel, and losing altitude. Life may seem to be spiraling out of control. It is in these moments that we need more than a helping hand. We need divine intervention. In these moments of desperation, we need to cry out, “Jesus, help.”

Life in the Balance

On January 2, 1982, a premature baby girl entered this world in the midst of what seemed like a hopeless situation. The doctors focused on doing what they could for her mother, who was having complications from the labor and delivery. This little girl had no chance of living a happy, normal life. She was lifeless. The doctors gave up hope for the little girl’s survival.

A Prayer Answered

This little girl’s parents did not give up hope. They knew that God was faithful. Struggling to cope with the situation, they didn’t rely on some eloquent prayer written with formal language. They didn’t call on the doctor. They called on Jesus. They simply prayed, “Jesus, help.”

The moment her parents prayed, the little girl began to cough, like a little kitten. The doctors were amazed, yet some of them said she would be no more than a vegetable even if she did survive. But her parents didn’t care. They wanted her to live. After spending several weeks in the Neonatal Center, the parents of this little girl finally were able to bring her home.

Now, at the age of 33 years old, she has since completed six years of college with honors, earning a 4.0 GPA on her Master of Science degree in English. Obviously, the doctors were wrong. God had His hand on this little baby. Jesus heard her parent’s cries for help and He answered them.

A Walking Miracle

My name is Jennifer Campbell and that little baby girl was me. I was born lifeless. God raised me up and gave me life. I thank Him every day for what He has done for me. I am living proof that God still performs miracles. God is the same. Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” All of God’s amazing promises are true, even today. Just as He answered the prayers of my parents, He will do the same for you. God always answers our prayers.

Have Faith

The Bible says that if we have faith as small as a mustard seed, we can move mountains (Matthew 17:20). My parents had great faith. The medical world said I would not live. But through faith, my parents asked Jesus to help. They sent up a “Mayday” call, if you will, to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He heard their desperate cry for help. Because of the miraculous power of Jesus Christ, I am alive today.

Do You Need Help?

When I was born, no ceremonious prayer was offered up. It didn’t take an army of deacons or church elders. No music was even played. Two people prayed, “Jesus, help.”

Jesus doesn’t require pomp and circumstance. He only requires childlike faith. Whatever you are going through, Jesus wants to help you. There is no situation beyond the reach of Jesus Christ. He can heal the sick, mend broken hearts, and restore lives. He is the Friend who is closer than a brother.

Jesus loves you more than you could ever imagine. Call on the name of Jesus Christ. Ask Him for help. He will help you, just like He helped me the day I was born and continues to help me every single day of my life. He will hear your cry for help.

In God’s Word, we read, “God is our Refuge and Strength, an ever-present Help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). Whenever you need help, call on the name of the Lord. He said, “‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’” (Joshua 1:5).

The Gift of Eternal Life

Put your trust in Jesus Christ. Jesus will cleanse your sins and fill you with peace that passes all understanding. Today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2). Romans 10:9 says, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Jesus loves you unconditionally. I John 3:16 states, “This is how we know what love is: Christ gave His life for us.” Jesus died to save you. He rose again and wants to give you eternal life. If you are looking for everlasting hope, a constant Friend and Help in times of trouble, pray these words:

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for loving me unconditionally. I believe you died on the cross and rose again. Please forgive me of my sins. Come into my heart and make me a new creation. I want to live for You. Help me share Your love with others.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

If you prayed this prayer, I encourage you to read the Bible, find a church family who can encourage you in your new walk with Christ, and most importantly, pray for God to help you.

May God bless you always,

Jennifer Campbell
